When cats choose to come into our lives they do so with purpose. It is true, cats chose us. They may choose us because we can help them, giving us the opportunity to provide feelings of safety, security, love, and joy. Or they may choose us because they want to help us on our life’s journey.
Cats have a unique ability to see beyond what is in front of them, so they have a deep understanding of how the world works. They want to help us find peace, comfort, love, and joy as we navigate the winding roads of life. Cats are also here to teach us lessons for growth on our spiritual journey.
Their gifts of wisdom come in abundance and may include learning compassion, patience, unconditional love, affection, loyalty, or simply, how to lighten up and have some fun. Or the lessons may be deeper, connected to our Soul Life Lessons. Cats guide us to embrace our inner selves while helping us release the pain from the past so we can learn, heal, and grow spiritually.
Cats continue to provide their golden nuggets of truth even after they have left this physical earth, we just need to be open to embrace their messages. Sometimes we are lucky and just know it’s them visiting, while other times, they may come to us in the form of another animal, perhaps not even a cat.
Bonnie and Clyde had a rough start to life. They were rescued as kittens from the worse hoarding situation I have ever witnessed in 25 years of cat rescue. At only 4 months old, they were extremely ill and nursing them back to health took almost 9 months.
At first, I wanted to get them adopted because they were “fancy cats” and stood an excellent chance at adoption. But they had other plans. I tried twice to get them into the store for adoption and both times I had to turn around and go right back to get them due to a runny eye or sneezing. After the second time, when we got home, there was nothing going on with them at all. I was puzzled by this.
As we sat on the floor, Clyde climbed into my lap, crawled up my chest and gave me the biggest hug, Bonnie followed and also climbed into my lap and rested her paw on Clyde. They were home.
I am grateful I listened and kept them because they were beacons of light in my life. They had beautiful and gentle souls that radiated with love. They have imprinted on my soul forever and I will always cherish our memories together.
Bonnie and Clyde ended up having lots of chronic conditions throughout their life and we didn’t think they would make it past 10 but they both did, 11 and 12. Clyde passed in 2018 and Bonnie in 2019.
What I did not realize is when Clyde passed, I started seeing dragonflies, one single one at my house and quite often. And the next year when Bonnie passed, it happened again, that very day, but this time many dragonflies.
I didn’t make this connection until last year when I was surrounded by dragonflies in nature, especially Red and Blue Dragonflies. I then realized when Clyde passed, he was letting me know he was around with the big, bold dragonfly.
When Bonnie passed, they were finding their way back to each other and surrounded by what appeared to be all of the Furry Allen Kittys that had transitioned over the years. Many times, I counted at least 12 dragonflies zipping about.
Learning the lessons our animal friends are here to teach us, I discovered that Clyde represents the Red Dragonfly and Bonnie represents the Blue Dragonfly.
It has been inspiring to learn about Dragonfly symbolism as it also let me know, by their choice of Spirit Animal, they had their new beginning and transformation when they became my cats. There is so much peace, healing, and connection when we can uncover these beautiful mysteries.
As Spirit Animals, Dragonflies symbolize change, transformation, new beginnings, freedom, self-realization, self-expression, and following your true path. Change can be tricky as we like things to stay routine. The problem with this is it keeps us stuck and stagnant and limits our ability to learn, heal, and find our purpose in life.
When we get to the root causes of our fears, doubts, self-limiting beliefs and negative behavior patterns, we free ourselves from the illusions holding us back. The dragonfly reminds us to let go of the old and make way for the new. We have the inner power and confidence to fly high and change direction quickly, even in the eye of the storm.
The dragonfly comes in an array of colors and each dragonfly color carries additional symbolism and powerful lessons for growth on our journey. The Red Dragonfly represents love, passion, creativity, vitality, safety, security, and stability.
Red also represents our Root Chakra, our tribal power center. From an archetypal perspective, the word tribal denotes group identity, group force, group willpower and group belief patterns. This is our connection to familial beliefs that support our group identity and a sense of belonging in a group.
The Red Dragonfly helps us connect to our life-force energy, the essence of life and our foundation for physical and mental health. They help us connect to our energy center supporting our physical foundation which helps us remain grounded, stable, and secure. They teach us to nurture our community bonds and embrace all the tribes that are put on our path.
The Blue Dragonfly represents love, compassion, empathy, trust, wisdom, communication, self-expression, and willpower. Blue also represents our Throat Chakra, our energy center for the power of will and self-expression. This chakra represents choice, consequence, and spiritual karma.
With every choice we make and every action we take, we must ask ourselves: Am I ruled by faith or am I ruled by fear? With faith, we become conscious that our personal power is limited and become acutely aware of our own limitations.
With faith, we can overcome our fears and self-limiting beliefs and become more receptive to higher guidance and our lives change in ways we never could have imagined. The blue dragonfly helps us connect with our mental and emotional energy center and teaches us how to trust ourselves, communicate with grace and love, and stay true to ourselves and our individual beliefs.
Our precious pets are always with us, imprinted on our souls for eternity. In life and after they have left us, our pets continue to guide us on our life journey.
In life, Bonnie and Clyde had their transformation and new beginning when they became my cats and during that time, I also went through many life changes. We all found a way to heal together. Even though they are gone, they have been with me for the past few years.
As I have gone through the multitude of changes in my life they were always by my side as the Red and Blue Dragonfly. Our animal companions always stand ready to lend a paw, or a wing to help us on our journey, to learn our Soul Life Lessons.
